Like most of you, your collections have to be worked around your spare time and your spare income. Mine too. I started a new job in October and am working stupid hours, so I get little time to have some fun. I'm making time today and intend to make a lot more in the next little while.
I was graced with the opportunity to sell some collectables for a family member. It's nice to be seen as the go to guy when it comes to finding values on specific items. This family member has a collection of over 700 1920's and 30's 8x10's from Hollywood stars. Many are signed. Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino, many of the pics are stills from old movies. These are wonderful old pictures that have some value to the right collector. The problem is age. Not the age of the pictures, they're in great condition. The age of the collectors who would appreciate these old classic movie stars are becoming scarce. Sad to say if this was a collection of signed Tom Cruise, Brittany Spears and Kim Kardashian pictures, my family friend would probably be rich.
The first thing that needs to be done is to catalogue all the pics, with any background info I can find. Many of the old stars I don't know, so I may be posting pics and asking for help. I will then contact 2 or 3 memorabilia housed in LA and see if I can get a feel for the value of the entire collection. Then comes the fun part. Try to get the most value from the items in the shortest period of time. Do I sell them as a collection or do I sell them in groups. I'll keep you posted. If anyone who follows knows of a memorabilia specialist in the Vancouver area, I would love to make a connection.
